Response to Vandalism Alert in Central Etobicoke

I've had numerous residents in Etobicoke respond to my flyer alerting them to the recent vandalism I experienced. Many people have had similar incidents at their homes. Many expressed gratitude for the alert and sorrow re the damage.

It's pretty clear after having spent time with the police and politicians in the area that there are limited resources available to police our neighborhoods effectively. It's up to neighbours protecting neighbours.

Neighborhood Watch programs need to be put in place. It's not the ultimate solution, but it should help. I am going to start one for my neighborhood. Stay tuned for a date where we will have a general meeting on Neighborhood Watch.

By the way, did you see the headline in last Saturday's Star? "Justice System coddles youth"...Dah.

Vandalism and Theft in Central Etobicoke

Recent Neighbourhood Vandalism Alert!

Neighbours,

On the weekend of October 15/16 (Saturday night), my property was severely vandalized. I live on Rathburn Rd in Thorncrest Village and the following was done to my backyard:

BBQ including propane tank thrown into pool
·
Large evergreen potted plant thrown into pool
·
Side of pool cover ripped with knife
·
Sides of hot tub smashed in using a rock
·
Gasoline poured all over the patio and possibly in the pool through the rip in the cover
·
Hot tub cover thrown in the pool
·
Numerous items stolen from pool cabana storage including a new patio heater still in the box
·
Glass broken in French door leading to cabana

Apparently there was a lot of noise, but unfortunately I was not there and the police were not called. The police feel it was the work of kids in the neighbourhood.

I wanted to send this to let everyone in the area know about these predators.

I’d appreciate your help if you have any information:

Perhaps your teens have heard others bragging about this incident?
·
Are you aware of any groups of people that were hanging out that night?
·
Did you hear/see anything abnormal that evening in the Rathburn area between The Wynd and Pheasant Lane?
·
Did you see any parked cars or strangers milling about that area?

I do not want this to happen to me again, nor to any of my neighbours. People who do these things should be caught and appropriately dealt with.
